What Do Couples Argue About Most?

While it is possible that there are many factors influencing the frequency of arguments between couples, the most common ones are children and parenting styles. Approximately 36 percent of arguments among couples in this age group involved parenting style, discipline, or children. Furthermore, the number of such conflicts will likely increase as more children are born with disabilities. No matter what the reason is, it is a sign of unhealthy communication. So, what causes arguments between couples?

Money is a top cause of conflicts among American couples. In a survey of more than 1,000 adults, the source of money-related arguments is more often personal than financial issues. For men, arguing about money is emotionally charged and tends to last longer than other conflict types. The study also notes that money-related arguments are less likely to be resolved. According to Papp, money is connected to power and can spark heated arguments, so it’s no surprise that they’re the most common cause of conflict in marriages.

What Do Couples Argue Most About

Some major milestones in relationships trigger arguments. Some couples fight over when to become exclusive, meet parents, move in together, or marry. Another popular issue is who is the loudest snorer in bed. Obviously, this makes their partner feel uncomfortable. However, if this happens frequently, it is time to consider the root cause of the conflict. If the disagreement is caused by something insignificant, the partner should consider changing the behavior or the environment in order to avoid it.
